Shining Flycatcher
Myiagra alecto

Native Range: Australian Region

Notes: despite its name, this species is not a flycatcher in the sense of being related to American flycatchers (Tyrannidae), but instead it resides within the taxonomic family Monarchidae which is native to the Australian region; this species shows strong sexual dimorphism with the male (not pictured here) having a blue-black hood and upperparts whereas the female (pictured) is mostly reddish-brown above.
